Re: Found this under my stove... What is it???
Mine used to look like that! LOL It's a broiler pan and you can make some great stuff on it!
I can't fit much in the drawer beneath my stove but I have mostly the lids to my pots in there. |

Re: Found this under my stove... What is it???
It's a broiler pan alright.
You put the slotted pan on top of the solid pan, and then put the meat on the top. As it cooks the fat will drip off and into the solid pan and away from the meat. It's great for cooking hamburgers! If you use the broiler setting on your oven be aware that it will cook one side at a time - so keep an eye on it. You will need to turn the meat as it cooks to ensure that both sides are evenly cooked. You can line the solid pan (tray) with aluminum foil and it makes for easy cleanup, instead of scraping the yucky fat from the pan. Ditto what someone else said about whether your drawer is a warmer or just a storage for pans. I keep my long pans in there.

Re: Found this under my stove... What is it???
LOL! No laughing. Here is my story about drawers under stoves. I grew up with electric stoves my whole life through 5 houses. We got married and moved to an apt with a stove. I stored my lids, (brand new plastic lids to my 9 by 13 pans and such in the drawer of the stove...Later when cooking in my oven I smelled burning plastic. It was NOT a storage drawer! It was where the flame was on my GAS stove! LOL! It took quite a while to live that one down with DH.

Yeah, you can tell I don't cook! Didn't even know you could cook hot dogs & hamburgers in the oven?? WTHeck is the other thing. I think it somehow hooks on to the thing at the bottom of the inside of the oven, but what/why do I need it? Dug out the manual and self cleaning right now for the first time, hahaha! Found that the drawer underneath is a drawer, so can I store pots & things in it or is that bad?? Cooking is hard work even when you aren't cooking!

I believe that when you cook it with the broiler the heat comes from the top and maybe isn't as hot. Lots of time one will cook something in the oven and then finish it off in the broiler. |

Re: Found this under my stove... What is it???
The way I learned about it that was easy for me to understand is that broiling is like an upside down grill, just the heat source comes from the top and not the bottom.

I also wasn't sure if I wanted to open the post...I figured it was a rodent or some strange half rotten something that a kiddo stuck under the drawer-yepper been there and done that
Now that I'm done I never drempt a broler pan could be a topic of conversation! I have a gas oven but mine is a storage drawer.I've worn it out though cooking so my dh is getting me a new jenn-aire double convection oven as soon as we get our dd plastic surgery bill paid off.He still loves me
