What to eat?

Do you all watch what you eat when bfing? I have read info that says to stay away from some stuff, and then another article says don't worry about it. The book "Happiest Baby on the Block" says not to watch it because mothers in other countries don't seem to have a problem, especially in Mexico where they eat lots of beans and spicey stuff. Just curious because the cold mornings will be here soon and I am dying for a Snickers Mocha!

Re: What to eat?

if there are no allergies, go for whatever you normally eat. I cut out dairy for the first 9 months from my diet, and most nuts and eggs. But I do eat lots of spicy food... and my baby loves it himself. Today he himself ate curried hot tofu for lunch and he loved it!!

Re: What to eat?

I agree with last post: if you are not having any problems, just eat smart. Remember, your baby need the same HEALTHY food you do. Limit your caffiene intake, and some BF guru's say to limit known allergens like peanut butter and shellfish (though I didn't and DD had no prob)...
If you notice probs with your babe (diarrhea, rash, etc), look at your diet... Usually start with dairy first, it's a frequent culprit...
Happy BF'ing!!

Re: What to eat?

Just a note on the caffeine - remember for every caffinated beverage, you need to have two glasses of water to replenish because caffeine acts as a diuretic. So caffeine is ok in moderation but remember to stay hydrated.

Personally I can't drink caffeine 'cause it makes my baby jumpy and wild. Man, oh man, do I miss a good cold fountain Mt. Dew with crushed ice

Re: What to eat?

My DD seems to have more gas when I eat dairy we already dont drink cows milk, so I'm limiting myself to the amount of cheese I can have. My DS was like that. I dont drink caffeine containg drinks on a regular basis it just doesn't sit well with me, makes me feel too gittery.

Re: What to eat?

I eat whatever I want and I haven't noticed DS having a problem with any of it.
However, if he had any issues when he was younger, I would have tried modifying my diet for his benefit.

I think a nice varied diet is good. It exposes your dc to many different tastes through your BM. I haven't modified my diet at all. I don't really drink too much caffeine anyway, but do have some tea once in awhile.
