Re: huh????
I have to reply to this, also. Between the newborn and 4m time, my sweet, happy lo would fuss and cry and be plain miserable (every night between 10 and midnight). Also, she'd be nursing and just start wiggling and getting just plain aggitated. We couldn't figure out what was wrong, but just let it go.
Then we started ec'ing at 4m., and MIRACULOUSLY!! She started burping herself (on the potty), and relieving herself either before nursing, or during (in a container). Immediately, the fussy period disappeared. We've realized that she was one of those babes who swallowed a lot of air and/or ate too fast. Once we put her on the potty, she'll burp (like a TRUCK DRIVER--no exaggeration!), then go and start her normal grinning again. We didn't start ec to "fix" anything. We started because I figured that if my dog gets to go outside and not sit in a diaper, my baby should get that=at least!! We just try to listen to her and do what is most comfortable and best...

I totally agree ...the funny thing is I have totally change my view on Ec over the years ..being raised"MODERN" I thought it was weird ...but I have come to realize that alot " modern " and so called "LUXary "pratices if you REALLY think about it are REALLY odd and totally unnatural.......and of course it is nice for those people to have the LUxary if it fits there baby or for some reason they can not perform the natural practice...but in all honesty alot and I am not saying all of parents use modern pratices out of lazyness not NEED and then make excuses for why they "needed" to do what they did , I hear them all the time.... |

Re: huh????
thanks so much....i was worried my post would sound EC nazi or something..i just think that lots of new luxary baby gear actually seperates us from our babies ynwim...i mean slings, EC and breastfeeding is actually as old school as it gets. yes lots of people did these things out of necessity..but we today do it because we choose a lifestyle that brings us closer to our babies, even though it is against our mainstream culture.

Re: huh????
LOL! I thought this was just something totally random with Quinn, but I guess not. We call the potty "The Burping Chair" since she seems to always burp there, too. It's like she likes to do all of her bodily errands on the potty. Good to know she's not alone!

Re: huh????
I hope that we as moms can agree that there isn't always a black and white answer for how to do things for our kiddos. What works for one mom or kiddo won't work for another. I hope that in these kind of issues we can work to be accepting of each others decisions whether we choose to CD or EC the focus is the same...doing our best to take care of our kids.

Re: huh????
I do want to add that I think its sad however that things that are natural are viewed by people in our country as uncivilized .....

Re: huh????
LOL! I think it's funny to compare putting a diaper on a DOG to a human being. And what's good for a dog, is good for the baby?
Dogs are animals with furry butts, so um no, diapering would be silly (unless you are like some that use them during heat cycles.) But we are talking human babies here, different story. I for one do not want a naked baby pooping on the floor in walmart, I DO feel a little more civilized than that, sorry to say. I will say that I find it 'neat' to be able to realize it when your child needs to pee/poo so young (I always knew when mine were pooping though.. )... Just like I think it's 'neat' that some folks do sign language with their children during infancy. But, it's not necessary unless your child is deaf. Just like EC isn't necessary unless you have no way or means of providing diapers for your child. But I do appreciate the right of each individual to do as they will. This just isn't something *I* would ever do. And I have 3 older children that never suffered as a result.. they were kept clean and changed regular like most good mama's would do... Did I say earlier, to each his own???
