ugh, make it go away!!!!

i woke up with a small clogged duct yesterday. i worked on it all yesterday and it's still there today only bigger. it's getting to be a good size knot and sooooo tender. i can hardly lift my arm it hurts so much. i have a heat patch on it now and i'm massaging it a little waiting for my dd to want to nurse again then i'll get on all 4's above her to nurse and hopefully it will let loose.

i hate this, since she's been born (16 1/2 months ago) i've had between 5 and 10 clogged ducts. (all in the same duct) i'm so tired of this!!!! but atleast it's not thrush again!!!! we had that for the first 2 1/2 months of her life!!!

anyone have any helpful tips to make this go away?

Re: ugh, make it go away!!!!

I think you're doing everything right: heat, keep nursing, work at it to break it up, nurse from above your baby to let gravity help. Just keep it up!

I know that breast problems are all consuming and feel like they are never going to get better but they do! I had a horrible milk blister that turned into mastitis and for a few days I was SERIOUSLY considering weaning because it hurt SO bad. I made a deal with myself that if it wasn't any better in a week, I could consider weaning again. But a week later, everything was back to normal and I couldn't even imagine wanting to wean.

Hugs mama, keep doin' what you're doin' and it'll get better!

Re: ugh, make it go away!!!!

I had the same problem. I had one duct that kept getting clogged, i would get a milk blister (ouch!) and it would be painful to nurse on that side. It happened over a 6 or 7 month period. It only cleared up after i had mastitis and i took an antibiotic. I think i had a low grade infection that whole time, or maybe a recurrent infection.
I hope you get it figured out and cleared up soon. Pain makes it so hard to enjoy the nursing relationship!

Re: ugh, make it go away!!!!

Can you massage the knot while you nurse? When you latch LO, use your gravity method, but point LO's jaw at the knot.

When I had a plugged duct, I used a little ice/heat bear I got from walmart and would massage the knot with the heat pad while DD nursed with me over her, on all fours and her jaw pointing at the knot. It broke loose in after about a day of it.

Good luck!
