Re: Midwife services in Portland

can i ask why you are opposed to having a homebirth? if you do change your mind i would HIGHLY recomend my midwife. she and her assistant midwife were amazing through my whole pregnancy and labor/delivery and post partum.

I am not opposed to it, but hubby won't ever agree to it...

its not his birth. not his body. not his choice.
is he just worried? would talking to someone who is informed and intelligent maybe put his fears at ease?
really, homebirth is the most amazing experience of my life.
life changing.

He is worried that I won't be able to do it without pain meds... so being somewhere that isn't home feels safer for him or something...
also I want a waterbirth, and I am not going to be able to have it at home...

Tanya,
not sure if you have found one yet but I used a mw from natural childbirth and family clinic. I had a homebirth but their birth center is very nice too.

http://www.oregonmidwifery.org/OregonCNM.html#Portland

This site has lists of hospital based mid-wives, birth center mid-wives, and home birth mid-wives. Catherine Pelosi was my midwife when I was pregnant with my 2nd, she was great but unfortunately she wasn't there for the delivery though since she was on vacation.

OHSU has AMAZING midwives. They have waterbirth options available. I loved them! I was so bummed when we had to move away. I had to stop going to them.

I gave birth at OHSU with their midwives, it was an amazing experience. I particularly love Ellen Tilden, she is great. With that said I will never give birth at a hospital again, next baby will be born at home! There are tubs you can rent to be able to do a home water birth. Even though I had such a positive experience I still don't want a hospital birth. I can only imagine how much better it will be if I do it at home.
