stripping dipes (again!)

So, I know this has been discussed a thousand times on here, but I've got the stink problem happening with my FB. So, yesterday, I tried washing with Dawn and rinsing about 8 times. The stink actually seems worse now!

I have hard water and know that is part of the problem. I've heard people talk about scrubbing their dipes with Dawn...is that what I was supposed to do? I just did a hot wash with it.

BTW...seems most of the stink is in the inserts, not the pockets. I'm thinking of giving up on microfleece and stuffing with prefolds that I can bleach if needed. Does anyone stuff FB with PF successfully? (I'm wondering what they are going to look like.)

Arg,
Ellen

Try boiling your inserts.

Re: stripping dipes (again!)

I honestly see no reason not to bleach the microterry inserts occasionally. They're just cotton. I bleached mine last night. Bleach will deteriorate the cotton over time but it would take a long time and a lot of bleach. I also would like to know if there's a reason not to add Borax to the inserts--it freshens really well!

PF are my fave inserts for all--well, most--of my pockets. they won't fit in my smalls. they look just fine, not bulky to me at all.

i have bleached my inserts before, hemp, micro and pfs. it did help with the stink. actually, i need to do it again. stupid buildup!!

only bleach the inserts, don't bleach the fb. I use prefolds from time to time, but I am not a big fan.

I've bleached my inserts before and it worked very well. I only used a couple tbsp of bleach.
