Can you figure out my washing machine?

Ummmm, I'm not totally sure how my washing machine works. What I do know is that the temp. setting is broken, so I'm not totally sure of the temp. of the water. Here are pictures of my old, broken machine.

http://www2.snapfish.com/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=55076153/a=37848266_37848266/t_=37848266

Here's how I wash my PFs and covers. Turn knob to what should be cold rinse, hot wash setting. Turn cycle knob to beginning of REGULAR cycle. The water feels cool coming out, so I dump in all my stuff and NO detergent. I let it fill up and then agitate for 10 min. or so. Then I come back down and move the knob to the spin cycle to get all the dirty water out. Then I turn the knob back to beginning of regular cycle, but this time w/ hot water coming out, and add detergent.

Is that the right way?? Is there a way to just go down ONCE to wash the diapers--instead of manually restarting the wash cycle after I change the temp. of the water?? Even if someone could just explain what goes on in the cycle of a washer, that would be awesome!! (What's the diff b/t soak and rinse? Do they come before or after wash? What's the diff between prewash and soak??)

Thanks mamas!!

Re: Can you figure out my washing machine?

on my machine i have a setting for soak/rinse(prewash) and THEN the reg cotton cycle and an extra rinse.

so i do a rinse (COLD no soap) then when i hear it filling up again (COLD) i just add allens. let it run. then do another (HOT) wash w/allens and this time do the extra rinse(COLD) at the end...sometimes i even do the rinse (COLD)cycle again!

did that help??

Yeah, doesn't mine seem backwards?? It doesn't make sense to me that it would wash and THEN prewash/soak and then rinse.

So do you have to manually mess around with yours a couple times while you're washign dipes, or do you just put it on a cycle and leave it til it's ready for drying??

Thanks!

Mine is old and doesn't have the prewas/soak. I run it through the wash cycle but set it down closer to where the spin cycle should be, Then run a hot wash cold rinse.
