bottlefeeding question

Quick question. DS is bottlefeed fulltime and when he was around three months old I bought him new nipples for his bottles (the stage after newborn I believe.) On the package it said that you are supposed to replace nipples every three months for sanitary reasons. It didn't say that they will wear out...? He is now over 6 months old so if it's true I need to be going out and getting them sometime soon. They are $4 a package though and I have to buy 6 packages

Anyway, could somebody please shed some light on this for me? Could I just boil the nipples to sanitize them so they'll last longer? Or not? lol, TIA!
