chronic high fevers...help

maybe someone can help me out here. dd is 15 months old. in the past 2 months or so she hsa been getting very high fevers 104-105. this is happening every 3 weeks at least and will last 2 - 3 days. i know fevers are good but this often/ her ped tells me she is just the kid with high fevers but i dont know...could there be something else. has anyone ever gone through this? she is pretty much fine anyways, i was told teething fevers arent that high. she someti,e will have a stuffy nose but otherwise she is absolutly fine, except cranky and clingy form the fever. i have to buy her the tylonal suppositories cause if i putmed in her mouth she thrrows up. maybe there is a doc out there that can help me...im a bit worroed. should i try to get to a specialist or something or am i freaking out for no reason! weve been to the er twice for these fevers....and nothing is showing up!

have they checked for a UTI? If they have then TRY not to worry. My oldest was a high fever kid. If he was going to bother having a temp he liked to really crank one up. He never ran 100-101 he almost always went over 105, it was just the way he worked. He'd be cranky and have a soaring temp. If I drugged him the fever lasted 3 days and he sometimes got cold symptoms. If I left him alone and let his body do what it wanted the fever lasted 1.5-2 days and usually NO symptom would appear. So I stopped treating and let his immune system do its job. After about age 3 he only got a fever like once a YEAR and only gets sick every other year.

That is a HIGH fever and you honestly do need to worry cuz fevers that high can cause seizures. Teething is never supposed to run more than 100 - anything over 101 usually means the child is sick with some sort of infection. While it is not unusual for kids to run fevers between 103-105 (usually higher when it is viral) - it is also not something that should be ignored - not when it is happening so often, and ever 3 weeks is way too often IMO.

Here are some other things you can try - Herbs for Kids fever support, it works wonders when DS runs a fever. Warm - not cold - baths. Warm cools them off without sending their little bodies into shock. Hydrate!!! this is one of the most important things when a kid is sick and running a fever. Chiropractic adjustments - both routinely and when a fever starts (this helps DS ALOT). Chiropractic adjustments help bolster the body's natural defenses and puts everything back howit is supposed to be - it affects bones, but also nerve conduction, immune response, etc. Alternating motrin and tylenol is also effective for really high fevers - that said I only give DS either if it is a fever over 103. Otherwise, just stick with the above. 103 or higher, we do the above and give fever reducers until it is below 103.

Now, do the ER or pediatrician usually put your DC on any antibiotics when this high fever occurs? What type and how long of a course? Have they run any tests (usually at the ER they do) - throat cultures, blood work, urine tests, etc? Have you noticed anything that triggers the fevers - something that your DC eats, does, is in contact before the onset of the fever? Is DC in daycare? How is DC growing? I am asking so I can try to get a better idea of what is going on....

I have to say that I disagree with the above post. My dd always runs very high fevers... and I never treat with tylenol or motrin...unless it goes over 105 and she's never had a seizure. The kind of seizures the pp is refering to come when a fever SPIKES! Treating a fever, can cause it to temp go down.. and once the tylenol wears off your temp can then SPIKE again, causing a siezure. I woudln't treat it if you could help it.

I have to contradict also. Febrile seizures are scary to watch but not a big deal medically. So even *IF* seizures occured (which has more to do with how fast the temp rises than with the temp itself) its still really nothing to worry about. Brain damage occurs over 106.7 and a temp that high comes from heat stroke.
The frequency can be concerning, and there may be value in running some tests to rule things out. But the fever (the temp being 105 vs say 101) itself is not an issue IMO. Some kids just burn hotter.
