If a child is at risk, older home, or often visits an older home, I feel the test is necessary. Lead can cause SERIOUS damage and shows no signs until the levels are VERY high. It's a simple test. I did find it was better to have a draw from the vein. It was quicker and no clotting. Zane had it done twice since his first level was borderline. Three months later his level was fine- and he was no longer in daycare. Race had his done at one year also- different home. His was fine.

Most kids pick up lead from dust on the floor. You don't have to have chipping paint, or any other sign of a problem in the home. We had our 1950s home sealed before we moved in. They tested it in 21 places after the seal and found no lead.
