It really isn't confusing. Please read my Summary post above.

No one has strikes prior to last night, period. We aren't going back in time to find things to "get you" for. We are good guys / gals...not out to get you.

Yes, I don't see why not.

I am undecided on the Kim ribbons, so for now they can stay.

I understand your concerns, but the siggy is in violation. Please change it right away.

A mod will tell you if they place a strike on your account. You don't have any as this only began last night.

Again, we aren't out to get you. Please relax....this is a positive for DS.

It is a mothering forum so I wasn't sure if it would fall into the category of places that couldn't be linked to.

really!! i had no idea they had THAT rule too. I know us FF over there are like lepers, so I don't go over there very often.

They do however have a diaper trade forum (or used to, not sure now) so would that competition for DS?

Question How did we get here, anyway?

more lenient than sites HE'S associated with.. exactly our point. HIS (et. al. *sorry..legal jargon.. wouldn't wanna get a strike. it means AND OTHERS*) association/administration is what's making it strict. probably on a straight path to where those other sites are. memberless but calm.

I can't imagine that if I joined DS now (after seeing an ad in the magazines that have been mentioned) that I would stay long enough to make my 1st post. If I looked around and saw the absurdity that has become 'threads', I would .

I'm now one to fuel or over dramatize, but this is honestly putting me off of DS. Answers that revolve around "For now it's ok, but I haven't decided" are wrong. What if one morning our admin wakes up and decides that goodmama auctions cause too much drama and bans the mention or sale of them? What if he decides that Free for Ship competes with actual items for sale? Funny enough.. if you look through Lee's posts, you will find him SPAMMING for a Rx drug company "his friend runs" in the thrifty forum. C'mon.. tell me there aren't kickbacks involved?

At the risk of REALLY stepping over...
How is is that we have these admins? Do they 'own' the board monetarily? Is it a matter of raising funds & buying them out? Have they 'owned' it from the start? It's just weird seeing people with post counts of a few hundred ousting active members with over 5,000 posts..... They aren't the heart and soul of this board...

One day I was bored and read their massive UA and I'm pretty sure that was a rule. They do have a diaper forum and a fsot.

This is not overly controlling and is MUCH more lenient then a lot of forums I am acquainted with. It is for the protection of the members that make this site great AND protection for the future of DS.

Unless you are trying to get banned and show a continual pattern of rude behavior, then you should NOT worry a bit.

Okay, so, what I am gathering from this-please correct me if I'm wrong-is that we have to make the SAME mistake 3 times to be banned....so the 3 strike policy is per rule, not in total...right?
???? Is this correct?????

Edited: I'm not sure why this isn't being answered...according to the rules, 3 strikes of any kind will be cause for banning, but according to what you are saying Lee, it's 3 similar strikes agains the same rule, because if I get a siggy strike, that is one, but if I say, Post a private message on the forums, how will your past siggy strike be something that would make me remember I can't post private messages on the forum...kwim? Then I have those 2 strikes and then I Use a slogan, sign, etc that indicates membership in an elitist clique or group without realizing I was doing so and BAM I'm banned, but according to you, my past strikes should have reminded me that what I was doing now was against the rules...I just would like clarification of this please.

Re: the updated DS rules

A lot of these rules seem like they're pointing at one "elitist group" or one person specifically....

I just have questions why we can't even mention other boards here..... Is it that threatening? I never get in the drama here and just try to be a good member and do my thing, but I have to ask why the new rules?

Why does it make it seem like DS can be our only online board committment? Why are we allowed only to be DS's friend, and no one else's, especially if the other boards that we mention have open membership and anyone can join? Why can't we put whatever we want as our AVI's as long as it's not vulgar/offensive (I saw someone earlier told they couldn't have there AVI anymore--and it wasn't even offensive). I'm so confused.

I though people came here, as mothers, to just chat, vent, swap, sell, converse, and basicalloy de-stress. Having all these rules definitely does not make me de-stress.

I am really trying hard to figure out why it matters if someone points out their store or links to another site.. Can someone PLEASE explain this to me.Also, if what Lee has said applies then the wording of this rule needs to be changed:

5. Posting a thread saying, "Hey, look at my siggy"

To me that means ANY thread that says "hey, look at my siggy" is breaking this rule..If it only breaks a rule when linking to their store than this rule needs to state something like "Hey,look at my siggy" threads IF the siggy links to a personal selling site.

Also, I saw it was okay to link to LLL but here is a rule:

2. The use of your signature, posts, or avatar to promote competing boards (other mama-targeted forums)

I would say LLL is about as mama targeted as a site can get??
Once again as I stated in another thread Just about EVERY woman on here WOULD NOT be here if someone on another site had not shared that Diaperswappers existed..It is probably other major sites and friends sharing info on them that has attributed to the success of DaiperSwappers! I send people here all the time and should be allowed to send people here to other great sites as well.

Why this feeling of fear of competition???

Hey, I want a Kim ribbon!!!!

And ditto to the above question.. How do we know what is acceptable to post a link to and what might get us a warning

Honestly all this stuff going on is starting to make my head spin. I like being a part of DiaperSwappers.Really I do but I am starting to get the feeling that I have to be very careful and everyone has to walk on eggshells or something

I am a busy mommy and wife.. I like coming here to unwind but if I have to constantly worry about changing or vague rules what's the point in trying to stay a part of this community.. I really don't need the extra stress and worry about rather or not what I post could get me banned.I try to be polite and careful on here anyway but I HAVE broken rules without even REALIZING that said rule was in place.

Actually, thanks to a post raven and ooey made I am getting to see some of the rules for the first time and they just seem.. I dunno.. sigh...

This is all just to much to try to process for me right now.. I am off..

Have a great day folks.

Lee owns this site. He makes money off of it, from ads and all of you Site Supporters. He may have other motivations (like he loves hanging out with us ), but money is one of them. He also owns a lot of other forums and has been heralded as a guy that figured out how to make money off of forums. You can google if you want to learn more. I am not bashing Lee Dodd, I am just stating some facts that I only recently learned.

I always thought this site was not-for-profit, and the ads and Site Supporter were just to keep it going for all of us, but it's not quite that warm and fuzzy. HTH clear up some of the confusion

Mothering.com - many more rules than DS
SomethingAwful.com - their mods ban anyone and it is random, you don't even have to break a rule
I can go on and on...

Yes, you are right. You see mods are nice and aren't out to get you. If you make a mistake you may just get a kind PM and receive no strike. They will use their discretion and do the best they can.

It is really in total, but again, we have discretion there. Due to our coding guru, Ken, we now have some flexibility to with removing of siggy and avy priveledges. So maybe we won't ban and just remove a siggy if a user has issues there. It is open for proper discretion on the part of our mod team.

That isn't part of the rule. You need to change it now.

We do our best to reduce scammers, ban them, and keep this place as safe as we possibly can. Ultimately the responsibility is on you. We make no claim to review all cases or make all things right, we can't. We do our best though. You trade here at your own risk. Just like eBay or Amazon or....

The admins ROCK and volunteer to service this community and make it possible for you to enjoy it.

Regarding the RX card that is a service and benefit (not spam) AND I didn't get a nickel from it (nor any other form of compensation). His program saved people (70% women) over $1.9 million dollars in February. I thought it was a worthy mention.
