Re: baby food: jar vs homemade
I made Bruce's babyfood. I liked knowing what his food was. If I did use jar food it would of been organic. I worked down south with migrant families and each day they came home they were covered with pesticides from head to toe. It was really bad so I try to get organic or really wash the veg and fruit well. Bruce only really had baby food for one month. Six months to seven monhts, then I just cut up his food into really small chunks.

Re: baby food: jar vs homemade
I voted both:
When he's home with me he eats stuff I made for him using the Super Baby Food methods. When I make it, I know I washed it well and cooked it well and pureed it to the right consistancy. Jarred baby food (especially the meat!) smells like dog food. It has no taste at all - it's like cardboard. I couldn't imagine my child learning to like different tastes when everything he gets out of a jar tastes the same - nasty! LOL My MIL is too "lazy" to thaw the foods that I made for him, so she always brings her own jarred foods, but she always buys organic, so that's ok. Those actually TASTE like what they are supposed to! At daycare he got regular jarred food, now he eats fingerfoods there. He's 10 mo now, so he's mostly eating what we eat nowdays which is nice.

Re: baby food: jar vs homemade
I used jar food. I live where there isn't much fresh produce, gotta love military life
When he got used to textures I did mash up bananas and avocados. My dh was deployed and I lived no where near family so it was just easier for me to pop open a jar. I think I did one food a week. I started a new food in the morning just in case he had a reaction so it wouldn't be in the middle of the night.
