Exclamation FYI - Three lots of Similac formula recalled

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Abbott's Ross Products Division of Columbus, Ohio, has issued a recall for three lots Similac liquid ready-to-feed infant formula.

The recall affects lot #401895V of Similac Alimentum Advance liquid ready-to-feed infant formula, lots #40177RH and #40172RH of Similac Advance with Iron liquid ready-to-feed infant formula, and lot #41699D5 of Similac Advance Hospital Discharge Kits, which included some 32-ounce bottles of the affected formula.

Abbott said the recall was initiated after it was discovered that some of the bottles in the lots may not contain the amount of Vitamin C advertised on the products' labels. Low levels of the vitamin can cause health problems in infants. No medical complaints have yet been reported related to the formula.

The products were sold from May 18-Sept. 5. Lot #401895V has "use-by 1 May 2007" printed on the back of the bottle, and lots #40177RH and #40172RH have "use-by 1 November 2007" printed on the bottle.
