Re: Whooping Cough anyone ever encountered it??

Well we went to the Dr. today and she does have it.

She is, thankfully, at home though and her put her on an inhaler to help her breathe when she has her coughing fits. The little mask that has to go on her face is soo tiny it's cute in a way.

We were worried she wouldn't have a coughing fit at the office for him to see, and so he wouldn't really think anything was wrong, but while waiting for him she did have one and so I opened the door for him to see and then she kept having it then she threw up all over the floor. LOL

So we were actually kind of happy that happened because then he believed something was wrong.

BTW she has been vax'd for whooping cough, has had 3 of the shots so far for it, but it's a series of shots over a couple of years or something so you can still get it in between. The Dr. Said they are actually seeing a rise in it because more adults are getting it now from not being up to date, kids are carriers but don't have symptoms because they have been vax'd. then passing it on and the starin in changing etc. They recommend now that kids get the shot again in between 11-18 because of the incidence of it on the rise.

Anyway so it sucks to have a sick baby and the coughing is so scarry but at least now I have something to help her.

OMG how scarey! My Dr. said that she had a child in her practice die of WC! That made me so scared to think that that could happen in our little town.

I am so sorry for your baby! I will keep you all in my prayers.

Thanks. It is scarey but I feel some what better now that we have seen the DR. and she is on an inhaler, before the inhaler it was REALLY scarey to see her face when she has the fits.

She is actually quite a happy baby considering everything that she is going through, oh ya she also FINALLY had her PKU test done today , she is still quite active and plays between which is why it's scarey because she seems fine then she just changes in a split second.

((hugs)) mama!! Sorry to hear your little one is so sick... you know I have heard that vitamin C powder works miracles for the whooping cough. You could get it at a health food store and put it in her food, or get her some Emergen-C drink.

You could check the whooping cough archives at mothering.com for more information.

Hope your baby feels better!!

Is it really contagious then? I see that you're pg. Anything special you need to do to watch out for yourself right now? Hope things get easier and glad to hear that you got a definitive diagnosis!!

Good for you for pushing things till you got an approp. Dx! A good example for why we have to educate ourselves and speak up when we're not comfortable with our dr's Dx.
Glad you found something to help a little. Hope she recovers quickly!
