will this work on a newborn?

ok I'm due for baby#4....TODAY!!!! My MIL sent me a girl cabbage patch doll since this is supposed to be our fourth boy and I have been bored to tears waiting on this baby.... anyway I started trying on all my fluff on the CP doll. I was wondering if a preemie prefold and a bummis or prorap cover work. I mean will ONE prefold hold a newborns pee or poo or do you need 2 preemie prefolds in 1 cover? It just seemed thin i guess, but this will be my first time CD'ing from birth. The other 3 boys, I just waited till about a month when they got bigger to fit into size small stuff.
I might not even get to read responses, I'm having some pretty good contractions now..... but dont wanna get my hopes up too much.
I'll keep you guys posted.

Re: will this work on a newborn?

Well, I just used 1 preemie prefold and a prorap cover. It fit great! But I did have to change pretty frequently. I think you could easily double up with two preemie prefolds to get a little more mileage. Especially if you are having a larger baby. When my DS was really small (6-7 pounds), using 2 just seemed so bulky (even with preemie pfs) that I just opted to change more often (every 1 to 1.5 hours I think). But he was a pretty heavy wetter and we NEVER had a leak with that system.

Good luck mama! I hope you have an easy delivery!

I know...I was wondering the same things about it being too thin, but I'm going with pfs and covers for this little one! My best friend just had hers 6 weeks ago, and that worked wonders for her.

I've noticed that my prefolds have gotten so much thicker and more absorbant with washing - pre-wash lots! And good luck!

You could always use a doubler too, right?

Preemie prefolds work alright. They are so small that they look cute on a newborn because they fit perfectly, and almost anything else you use will look bulky for awhile. That said, they aren't absorbent and in a couple of days your newborn will be filling them with poop faster than they can keep up.

one was fine, but when you need to go a little longer just trifold the second one in the cover!! or the other thing i did was i bought a bunch of the 4x8 size wipes (in any combo of materials) and those are the perfect size for nb doublers & you can customize! cathiasplace wipes are great for this in the cushy materials!
