Re: 15 month old not walking?

My oldest was crawling by 6 months, cruising by 7.5, and climbing on everything (including the very top of the couch from the floor) by 9 months. Didn't walk on her own until 15 months. My son was only about a month behind his sister on the crawling.cruising, but didn't walk on his own until 17 months. My youngest was the same as her siblings for crawling and cruising, but had actually taken unaided steps around 11.5 months and is fully walking/running (sort of) now at 12.5 months.

As said, every kid is different. Also, I think their environment plays a big role. With our son, we spent most of our day in the living room and in that particular apartment, it was such a small space, he didn't really have any reason to walk. The living room we have now is so open there's no way the baby could've cruised around everywhere.

Wow, I posted this what, yesterday? And now look at today!

In Early Intervention, we didn't consider it a true delay until 18 months. With many toddlers, they are capable but just lacking the confidence and are scared.

Re: 15 month old not walking?

My DS always had low muscle tone in his legs (he never stood at all until 8 mos, and then for just a second at a time). His ped told us not to expect him to walk until 15-16 months. He ended up walking at 14 months, so we were very happy with that. But our ped told us that there's nothing to worry about until they hit 18 months, then then need an eval to see if it's a possible leg or muscle issue rather than a confidence and practice issue. It can't hurt to ask your ped to take a look next time you go in.

Re: 15 month old not walking?

My DS is only 6 days older than yours, and started walking unassisted only in the last couple days! He's been walking around furniture for months and standing solo, but the last few days, he's walking 5+ steps at a time, and every day it's a noticeable difference in how much more confident he's getting. I'm thinking in a week, my DS will be walking from one end of the house to the other.

My DD walked at 12.5 mos so I was starting to wonder if my DS would ever walk, but he finally did. Your DS will soon too!

Re: 15 month old not walking?

My now 7 year old dd didn't walk until a few days after I brought it up at her 15 month check up. I was pretty concerned because my others started walking at 9 months, 12 months, and 8 months. But the doctor said she would walk soon and she did. She was just happy to sit in one spot and play with all the toys her older siblings brought her. Give it another month or two and try not to worry in the meantime. Easier said than done, I know!!

Re: 15 month old not walking?

Since he's cruising and crawling nd otherwise on track, I wouldnt worry. Some kids just dont feel a need to walk earlier and that sounds like the case with your LO. My kids were 13 & 14 mo when they started walking, but my niece was 17 months. She totally could have walked sooner if she wanted to, but she just didnt feel the need He'll get there eventually.

Re: 15 month old not walking?

My son didn't start walking till 17 months...he could have, but he preferred to crawl. When he did start walking, he was practically running, so watch for that

Re: 15 month old not walking?

My oldest daughter didn't walk until 17 months and she's 6 now and doing just fine. She just wasn't in a rush. I wouldn't worry about it yet especially if he's doing other developmentally appropriate things for his age.
