oh my gosh OUCH!

I discovered white patches in Gianna's mouth and on her lips yesterday. So I started the Gentian Violet.

Then this afternoon I started noticing some pain while nursing. And now nursing her to sleep was EXCRUTIATING! I literally cried through it!

I put the Gentian Violet and All Purpose Nipple Ointment by Jack Newman on (www.drjacknewman.com) but it's not providing immediate relief!

Oh the pain!

I just took 200 mg of Ibuprofen hoping that will help because OOOOOWWWWWWW this hurts!!!

Use the APNO whenever you have pain. I remember that was the only thing for a long time that made it feel better. 2 or 3 days of treatment should provide some relief.

Re: oh my gosh OUCH!

The fastest relief for me was using water/vinegar wipes after every nursing session.

Grapefruit Seed Extract was a blessing for us. It worked quickly. I took pills and used the liquid as a wash for my breast and her mouth...

Good luck! I hope you get relief soon!!!

I read on Dr. Newman's site about GSE....I think I'll check it out.

Seems the ibuprofen did the trick. I'm feeling SO much better. Wow, that was really painful.

GSE was the one thing that gave the most speedy of relief the times ds and I have dealt with this. (I also added a few drops of the GSE in the rinse cycle to diapers to kill any yeast there and it worked great!)

Sounds like you have a good treatment plan going

I hope that you both feel better soon

Re: oh my gosh OUCH!

i got thrush about 6 times before we stopped nursing. i used the gentian violet and vinegar rinses. The gentian violet seemed to work for baby's mouth but not for my nipples. What always helped me what a straight vinegar wash after every nursing and showers. just dipped or wiped my nipples with plain white vinegar. It usually cleared the pain up within 2 days. Though you should continue the treatment for at least 2 weeks

good luck mama--they can be very painful. make sure if you are still leaking that you change your breast pads frequently as this can cause infection. And also wash you nursing bras in hot and maybe a little bleach or vinegar to kill the yeast on them too!!

oOOOooOH, NICE TIP! The nursing bras thing, I didn't think of that!

Nursing is still painful today but at least it's not that bad when she's done. Last night I was in tears! Motrin helps.

I'll try the Vinegar. I think the APNO is helping. This sucks.
