How do you know your supply is low if you don't pump regularly? With my last he spent less and less time at the breast so I figured it was low but looking back I don't know if that was true.

If baby isn't satisfied after eating and isn't having enough wet diapers then there might be a supply issue. Of course it could also be a let down issue or something else that is frustrating baby. That being said babies generally do spend less time at the breast as they get to be more efficient nursers.

Not stupid, just a mom, so you worry just like all the rest of us.

Thanks. I'm not currently worried about my supply I was just wondering how you would know. This time around everything seems to be going good so I don't want to jinx myself by worrying about something I don't need to be worrying about.

Wet diapers, poopy diapers (for the first few months), baby seeming satisfied after feedings, and most importantly weight gain. As long as a baby is gaining weight (at least 4 oz. per week, I believe) they are getting enough. Many moms doubt their supply because the baby is at the breast for too long, but they may just want comfort. Others worry if the baby is at the breast for shorter periods, they may just be efficient. But, as long as the weight gain is on track, relax.

BTW, pumping output is NOT an accurate reflection of milk supply for many moms.
