Re: Healing bruises??

No idea if this would be compatible with breastfeeding (might make you taste funny) but I have heard that putting vinegar on bruises is supposed to help them heal faster.

Re: Healing bruises??

sounds to me like a bad latch. your siggy says little g was born 3/8 so baby is still learning i assume. work on different latch techniques and i bet it will get better. i had hickies (sp) on and around my nipples from dd1 due to bad latch...they WILL keep sucking until something comes out or until you fix the location of the latch

Re: Healing bruises??

I stopped using lanolin, thinking we were ok, but I was SO wrong. I later read on La Leche League that moist healing is better than a dry healing. If you let your nipples dry out (with sunshine, air, blow dryer, or many of the other folk remedies), then they'll scab over, your scab will be sucked off, and you'll bleed. I read this, of course, after I'd gotten to the bleeding stage. So, get a tube of lanolin and apply it liberally after each feed.

Using a cotton bra and cotton nipple pads also made it worse for me. I have to wear a synthetic bra and the disposable nipple pads. The cotton sticks to the milk on my nipples and peels off precious skin each time I remove my bra.

Once I started bleeding, it was so painful I cried at each feed. A nipple shield was my only answer and we used it for about a week. Once my nipples healed, we had no problem going back to plain old nipple. Now, she won't take the nipple shield, and it's only been three weeks.

best of luck

Re: Healing bruises??

I've heard warm moist tea bags. Not tried it yet, but if DD keeps up the gymnastics, I might be trying it soon.
