This recipe is very similar to Crescent Dragonwagon's Dr Feelgood's Chocolate Cake in THe Passionate Vegetarian ... it's an awesome recipe & I highly recommend it ... and the cookbook.

Its funny.

We've been using this recipe in our family for over 25 years!!!

I have no idea where it came from but I know when my parent first got married and were broke it was the only treat they used to have.

It is great made into shaped kids birthday cakes and with creamcheese icing on it

I make dozens of then for mine and friends kids birthdays.

They are good but I think they are a little dry without frosting...but my son and I did eat them all without frosting. The last ones were eatin yesterday...hehehe I will prob make them again.
