Diaper Swappers

So DD has been EBF since birth and never has taken to a bottle or anything. She's 12 months now and has never taken milk from a bottle. She actually had some tongue issues (amazingly, not while latching, but while trying to suck a bottle or sippy and eat from a spoon) so we have been under the care of a dysphagia specialist to get her eating well. Well, she graduated from that about 6 weeks ago and she eats well from the spoon and feeds herself table food and she will occasionally take liquids from an open cup. We just bypassed bottles and sippies for her.

ANYWHO, up until this week she was nursing 4-5 times a day and IMO getting most of her nutrition from breastmilk. Well, suddenly this week she doesn't want to nurse but about 5 minutes and then she wants to talk and giggle and get down and play. I pumped some milk and put it in a cup, and she drank that pretty well. I wasn't really ready to give up bfing yet, but I'm wondering if she is.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Could it be a nursing strike? I know kellymom.com has good info about nursing strikes? Maybe she was just distracted today? Sorry I'm not much help!

My now 8 year old daughter did the same thing at around 11 months and she was done with breast feeding. Unfortunatly if the LO decides they want to wean themselves there is no stoping them. It is there way of showing there independence. It could just be a nursing strike too. The only way to tell is to keep trying to bring her to the breast and see if she will take it. If it is a nursing strike then she will take the breast again if she wont then most likely she is self weaning.

If she was nursing 5-6 times a day, I HIGHLY doubt she's weaning.

I would say nursing strike or teething. Maddie did the same thing at different times from about 11-14 months, but she was never weaning.

I know a lot of babies go through a nursing strike right around that age. Also they are becoming more mobile and more distracted and are busy with other things.
