Is it a plugged duct??
Hello everyone! I have had a pain in my right breast since Friday afternoon (it is Monday afternoon now) that has not gone away.
It is VERY sore to the touch. I know it is not mastitis because all the other times I've had it, I've become very sick very quickly. There SEEMS to be a smallish lump, but it is hard to tell because of all the other milk glands around the area. I've tried nursing acrobatics, heat pads, massage, long showers, thinking positive thoughts....nothing has worked ! I called my local LLL and she said either plugged duct, mastitis or thrush. I don't think it is thrush. I don't think it is mastitis, though the "duct" hasn't responded to anything I've tried so far. And, of course, I could be imagining things, but yesterday morning the breast was A LOT larger than the other one. It is typically bigger on its own, but it seemed like it grew a bunch. Now that I've been looking at it for a day, it seems normal... Any ideas? I feel so FRUSTRATED!!!!!!

Re: Is it a plugged duct??
Does sound like a plugged duct. Keep doing what you're doing, don't want it to turn into mastitis. If it persists and all that doesn't help you might want to try contacting an LC, your OB or m/w.

Re: Is it a plugged duct??
My LC told me once to unclog the duct w/a pin...I wouldn't do it myself though, I'd have someone who knows what they are doing try it lol
There might be a slight infection present that is just causing inflammation and preventing you from being able to unblock it. I'm really not sure though, I hope others have better advice...sometimes taking advil and using some cabbage leaves will reduce the swelling and make it easier to unclog. It might be especially swollen because you are doing things to try to unblock it and swell it more?? GL, let us know how it goes. |

Re: Is it a plugged duct??
sounds like one. Just keep trying to draw it out. Pump if you have to. If you dont get it cleared up it will turn into mastitis

Re: Is it a plugged duct??
When I have a clogged duct I rub the area (even though it hurts!) while he is breastfeeding and just keep doing what you're doing. Mine usually last a few days and then finally dissolve...good luck!
