Natural spider killer?

I love our big oak trees, hate the spiders! I don't necessarily want to kill them, just keep them outta the house! We get those big brown house spiders everywhere, last night one apparently had eggs hatch in our house, DH noticed a massive amount of baby spiders when he picked up a laundry basket, then out popped mama spider. I FREAKED!! I hate spiders! My ant/roach stuff (borax and sugar) apparently does nothing for them so what will?

Re: Natural spider killer?

LOL! Yes I know that! That's what DH had to use last night! I literally hauled butt into the other room as I couldn't handle the spiders, I seriously freak out over them... for about 5 mins all I could hear was slap, slap, slap, slap.... DH's shoe getting all the spiders! I felt bad for them because they were babies, but I kept reminding myself that babies grow up!

Anyway I'd like to never see them again, whether there's a shoe nearby or not! Any other suggestions?

Re: Natural spider killer?

We just had the bug guy here at our apt last week... we get spiders by the tons from outdoors in the spring (only bug we seem to get, thank goodness)... he said that actually spraying for them only kills the ones that get hit right then... but that because spiders walk on their "toes" they don't die from the spray residues... he said the best way to kill them quick when you see them, other than squishing (ick) is Aquanet. Not the greenest solution, but simple and cheap. He said it actually works better than the stuff he was using.

Re: Natural spider killer?

I don't know about brown spiders, but I've been spraying the "entries" (doorways, windows, and along the baseboards) with 90% vinegar/10% water solution, and it takes about 3 days before I notice more spiders. My favorite weapons against them is my vacuum cleaner..
For the vinegar, I heard that the spiders don't like anything strong smelling, and it works, just needs to be reapplied every couple of days (I wash my floors with vinegar on those days too)
Google natural spider repellants, there is a couple different recipes out there.

Haha! I was going to say throw a slipper at it! I don't have a solution persay, but we always make sure to use the vacuum attachment to suck up all the spider webs and their icky egg sacs that accumulate in the ceiling of our basement.
