Shipping is such a pain

I need to vent. I decided to join a coop to buy some prefolds. The price is amazing. I mean $9/doz for infants, you get the idea. But shipping was stupid high so I can't do it. How's a person supposed to try prefolds if you can't get them at an affordable price? Are there cdn coops for prefolds or does shipping just kill that idea too?

Anyway I know you all understand about shipping. Thanks for letting me vent.

Shipping is ridiculous in Canada, I know. I don't know of any Canadian prefold coops, but even if there was one I think shipping would still be an issue. It often costs more to ship within Canada than US to Canada.
I think your best bet will be to combine an order with someone at a place that has flat rate shipping, and order lots at once. My friend's website has flat rate of $7.50 and she carries DSQ prefolds among other dipes. www.twopotatotots.ca

Re: Shipping is such a pain

well i think that i read the wrong page on the usps website this time i saw that it is $27/10lbs so maybe I can still do the coop. Especially since 4 doz prefolds is practically the price of 1 doz canadian prefolds. So maybe I'll still go ahead and get some through the coop.

Thanks for the weblink.

shipping is expensive on small items but I have found larger items are better priced. A small parcel can ship for $11 but a huge 5 kilo package can ship for 14$.

But ya CP does suck!

Re: Shipping is such a pain

I'm looking for prefolds too. I wanted to get GMD orange edge NB's but they won't ship to Canada. I haven't found too many places that even carry preemie/NB prefolds, and that's all I want since I only plan to use them a couple of weeks until the baby fits into the all the small size diapers I have been collecting. I did find this site www dot nhdcanada dot com /diapering-prefold-diapers-c-1_7_52 dot html

I'm not sure of the quality - they *sound* good, but it doesn't actually specify whether or not they're DSQ. Anyhoo, the prices aren't too bad: $19.99/doz infants, and shipping for 2 dozen diapers was only $12 (CAD).

I'll have to try later, for some reason the site isn't letting me PM you.

Re: Shipping is such a pain

if you get dinged by costums on those co-op prefolds (and you likely will) they will end up being more expensive than a canadian option. plus at least to me, it's good to support canadian wahms..

Re: Shipping is such a pain

I know what you mean. I actually counted how many newborn fitteds I had made and I have 35. So I guess I don't really need prefolds now

Re: Shipping is such a pain

I managed to get my hands on the orange edge GMD prefolds I wanted - yay! A very kind mommy on diaperpin offered to order me some (she was placing an order anyway and it only cost an extra dollar in S&H to add another 2 doz), but because they weighed almost 5lbs they had to be shipped by priority mail and it cost $21! She marked them as a gift tho, so I didn't get dinged customs at all. In the end, the darn things cost me about $2.75/ea - but you can't get 4x8x4 NB prefolds in Canada so I deem it worthwhile.
