How many times does your 11 month old nurse?

Ive been introducing Jackson to a bunch of foods and he really is into eating solids...

All of the sudden last week, he just stopped being interested in nursing during the day. Also, he is now sleeping through the night (thank you!!!)

So basically, we are down to a morning and a night time nursing session. Is that okay nutritionally? I am trying to give him a nice balanced diet of solids to make sure he is getting lots of good foods in him, but I am worried that he isnt getting the complete nutrition of the breastmilk.

I guess Im surprised he so suddenly decided he doesnt want to breastfeed during the days anymore and went so whole hog on the solids.

How often does your 11 month old nurse?

At 11 months old my DD was nursing I think every four hours or so. She was a nursing queen lol.

I don't know but i'll be reading with interest. I suspect we'll be heading down that road with DS.

You could add an afternoon nursing session? Even at 18 months, my DD still prefers nursing to actual eating lol... I guess it might be the individual child?

I've heard that BM or formula needs to be their main source of nutrition for the full 12 months, so I'd try to add one more nursing session in there. DD was doing about 3-4 at that age and I could tell that I still had a pretty good supply. (She was also sleeping through the night.)

If he won't add in another session for you, just make sure he has enough fluids and variety in his diet like I'm sure you're already doing.

Re: How many times does your 11 month old nurse?

OK thanks mamas... I tried giving him an extra feeding in the afternoon today and he didnt protest too much. Though on the other hand, he didnt give it much attention either. Ill keep trying to get that extra session in...

I think he just thinks he's hot stuff because he figured out how to use a sippy cup....

if he really doesnt take to the third nursing in the afternoon, what do you mamas think of putting formula in the sippy cup? At least it would be more nutritious than water or a 1/4 juice dilution ....

I wouldn't do formula. A friend of mine on another board started her DS on cows' milk at 10 months, on her doctor's recommendation, so you could possibly see what your DS's doctor says about that.

Do you have a pump to put pumped milk into a sippy for him? I wouldn't give him cow's milk before twelve months. Formula or breast milk is best before a year.
