Re: How can I get my bf baby to take a bottle or sippy?

My son seemed to hate bottles so he only drinks milk from the tap, but we have lucked out with him liking a Nuby sippy cup. He LOVES that think and drinks water like it is going out of style!

You can use your breastmilk in baby food - add it to cereal or anything else to thin out the consistency. Use it in place of water to make it healthier! I'm trying to get my baby to take a sippy cup - or at least get used to it - so I don't have any advice on that!

Re: How can I get my bf baby to take a bottle or sippy?

I got my first to take a straw.. never a sippy or a bottle.

Also - DONT throw your milk away!!!! I'm donating about 50 ounces a week to a mama that adopted a baby ... theres a yahoo group called MilkShare - its fabulous. There are a ton of mothers that need milk, either because of breast surgeries, adoptive babies, lack of supply - etc.

Good luck

Re: How can I get my bf baby to take a bottle or sippy?

I'm having the same problem (minus the freezer full of bm, I stopped pumping months ago when dd refused to take a bottle, I didn't want to waste any more time/milk (because she wouldn't drink the defrosted milk and I was pouring ouncs down the sink. I have to be away (working) for 6 hours 2 weeks from now, so it is my mission to get her to take a sippy with something in it to hydrate her while I'm gone (she eats solids well now, she's 10 months) I've tried tons of them but still no luck, she does like drinking from a regular glass, but I don't like it because she likes to hold it herself, asking for a disaster. Best of luck, it takes patience that's for sure!

Re: How can I get my bf baby to take a bottle or sippy?

try to take the non spill proof rubber thing off the advent sippys that what i had to do for my girls to get thing into the sippy. they didn't know what was in it. but they got the hang of it quick then they know mama milk was in there.
then you can put the little rubber part back on.
( you can do that with most other sippys too.) most of the time they just don't know what your trying to shove in there mouth.

Good luck!

Re: How can I get my bf baby to take a bottle or sippy?

I've been giving my kiddo brown rice cereal because my emergency freezer stash is starting to get old and the only way I can get my frozen breastmilk into him is to stir it into cereal. He won't take a bottle and doesn't understand what to do with a sippy (the whole "tip the cup" and "tilt your head back to drink" concept just doesn't make sense to him). Lately, I'm on a quest for a good BPA- and PS-free straw cup. Hopefully, sucking from a straw will be easier for him to figure out.

I really cant help you since mine wont take a bottle either. She did at first when we had to use it for formula feeding, she had such bad jaundice that I had to sub alone with BF her. Well once she was done with it all I did was BF, she is now 7 wks and I cant get her to a bottle at all. I would try different ones and see what happens.

Re: How can I get my bf baby to take a bottle or sippy?

The first time we got dd to really take a bottle, it was with a gerber nuk orthodontic nipple. Lemme see if I can find a link...

http://www.drugstore.com/qxp54975_33...2_6_months.htm
(I don't think ours was the fast flow like pictured, but that's what it looks like)

It was like a miracle for us! Anyway, its worth a try. They're cheap, and it will fit in any regular bottle so you don't have to make a big investment.

After a while she also liked the nuby sippys, like a pp mentioned.
