Re: Finding a birthmom

You could try contacting the agency he was adopted through. You could try the social welfare agency in Korea. You could try searching online for someone who helps in birthparent searches. Bastard Nation might have some ideas for you.

We've found one birthfamily and had no luck finding another. In the situation where we've not found them, I hooked up with an adopt adoptee from India who helps adoptees search in India. He's almost out of ideas for where to look in India for ds's birthfamily though. But, he goes in several times a year and connects with local Indians and together they search in the area, get access to records, etc.

Re: Finding a birthmom

I looked around some and all the links I could find at Bastard Nation for Korea were dead. I think if you joined the group, you may be able to hook up with some people who could help you. I know there are a ton of transracial adoptees in that organization.

I also looked around for search angels, but couldn't find any for Korea during the limited search I did.

I know some people that have had good luck with kinsovling. They specialize in adoption search, but the only people I know that have used them have been in the US and UK.

There is another organization Omnitrace, that does adoption searches that I have read about, but I don't know anyone that has used it personally. I think they are international.

There is also an organization that helps adoptees, they will not help an amom and they are very anti adoption, but they have good results. If you are desperate it might be worth trying. They specialize in domestic and UK but I'm sure they could help if it comes to that. They also have tons of search angels.

Good luck!

Re: Finding a birthmom

Okay, I think this is the best resource I could find
http://www.goal.or.kr/eng/

This is a korean family search guide
http://www.koreanadoptees.net/search-methods.html

Also, I completely forgot about this woman. She is the amom of 2 korean adoptees and I love her blog. She has found the first mother of one of her children. She has tons of knowledge and is very nice. I would visit her blog and ask for help if the above doesn't pan out. I would visit her blog anyway, she is awesome. I read there on a regular basis.
