Quinoa has the highest amount of protein, and I believe iron, of any grain. Sounds like a good choice.

Try savory rather than sweet! Anything you would add to a stir fry, Indian food, etc. that uses rice, you could add for the "cereal." Cumin would be a great start, if you're stuck for ideas. I've heard 1/8 tsp of the spice/s per half cup solids. I personally think we train our kids to strongly prefer sweet things because we make everything they eat sweet (breast milk is very sweet, but solids aren't usually naturally sweet, unless it's fruit). Fruit is awesome, but why is that the only thing/flavor they ever really get?
