Just a vent - spilled milk/low supply

I hate my right boob! There, I said it! I hate you, Mr. Righty. (I say Mr. because it just *has* to be a male!)

From day 1 I've had issues w/ my right side. DD couldn't latch because the nipple doesn't stretch/stick out as good as the left. We used a nipple shield for the first couple of weeks until she was strong enough/experienced enough to draw it out and get a good latch going. Supply has always been much lower on the right. I'm taking fenugreek, drinking water like it's my only job, and eating oatmeal daily. I even tried block feeding, pumping more on the right side, and offering it more often. None of that has helped to boost supply on the right. Mr. Righty just sucks. If I didn't have my left boob, DD would be starving!

When I pump, I get about 1/3 as much on the right as I do on the left. And to add insult to injury, Mr. Righty is now smaller than the left. Great. Perfect. Thank you very freakin much! Not only do I get to sport my awesome freakin stretch marks this summer, but I'm also lopsided. Well, thank you. Thank you, Mr. Righty for drawing attention away from the stretch marks. You're just fantastic, really.

So because the right is smaller, I have to use an insert for my pump horn. I also compress that side a LOT when I pump just to get a decent amount out of that side. Well when you're doing compressions with a horn insert, the suction is lost very often (unless you've got huge boobs). Well today I'm compressing (almost done pumping) and the stupid horn came unsuctioned and fell to the floor. Upside down. Yep, my hard earned Mr. Righty milk spilled all over the freakin place. Well, just GREAT. Not only did I lose half of my whole whopping 1.5 oz I'd managed to squeeze out of the right, but milk got stuck up in my BRAND NEW tubing. How awesome.

Sorry, I just needed to vent. I'm sorry for those that can't BF. I'm sorry for those that only have one boob or can only feed from one boob. I'm sorry for those that have to pump exclusively and don't want to. Please don't flame me for my vent. I just needed to get it out.

My right side sucks too Smaller, yes, less milk, yes, stupid flat small nipple, yes. I decided it doesn't matter. I feed him on that side ALWAYS first so he empties it and then move to the left. He gets plenty of milk with both sides combined, and that's what's really important right?

I would be totally irritated about the milk too though. My right frequently unsuctions (if that's a word) and milk leaks down my tummy.

I sympathize and empathize! Mine is my left side though and same thing with size, supply, etc. Looks good in a bathing suit And I could almost cry when I take the pump off and accidentally knock the bottle over--it's happened a few times. BTW, I'm STILL nursing with a shield because every time I try not to my LO gets so frustrated that he starts crying and screaming and won't eat at all...maybe someday!

Feel free to vent away! With this baby my left boob is two cup sizes larger then my right so I completely understand the lopsided thing and it totally sucks!

Re: Just a vent - spilled milk/low supply

Thanks, mamas. I just get so frustrated sometimes. I'm very fortunate that I've been able to BF this long (was worried about not being able to) and am going strong to make our 1 year goal (hoping for 18 months). Sometimes I just want to scream though. It feels good to vent to those that understand.

And here's more to those having issues also. I wish BFing wasn't so hard sometimes. It should be easy for everyone!

Re: Just a vent - spilled milk/low supply

Kelly! Unfortunately I can understand your frustration with some of the things you said. I have a confusion moment of not sure to laugh or cry at times.

I was told that most mamas have one side [boob] that makes more milk than the other and can leave you lopsided. I haven't had that issue, but I definitely make more milk out of the left than the right. I am so sick of exclusively pumping and I can sooooooooooooooooooooooooo relate to all the issues with the stupid pump horn things! I am embarrassed to say that I have dropped/spilled, leaked down my tummy, etc more milk than I have gotten into the bottles at times! How pitiful is that?
I just now figured out because of my post with having issues bfing/milk supply and my health that the horn things come in different sizes! You know.. that could have helped me weeks ago and I think it is the reason that my milk supply hasn't increased, but infact decreased. Thanks to another mama on here that saw my post and is close to where we are moving.... I now have a list of 'help' available to me. I am so glad. I also have found out how to order those dang smaller horns so that they can actually fit correctly! I think that will be so helpful!

I hope that it gets better! I think it is wonderful that you are bfing so great! I don't think anyone thinks bad of you or anything for venting. BFing is soooooooooooooo hard! I am embarrassed to say that I had NO idea! I honestly thought you just stuck the baby on and you are a bfing champ! Oh well.. atleast we have bfing support and other mamas who understand right?

You have my sympathies. I have a Ms Lefty that a cup size or so bigger than my Ms Righty. DS used to would nurse off the right but at 15mos he just stopped and will now only nurse the left. He cries when he's on the right and will pull off, frown and poke it like something's wrong with it. But even before that, the right made 1/4 what the left did.

SO sorry hun for losing all of that hard earned liquid gold

My left has always been a better producer than the right and I'm lopsided by around a cup size. It sucks!
