My son does this....well it's not so bad anymore. But it peaked around ten months.....he rarely does it now, and he's almost a year.

And yes, the penis discovery has begun...LOL.

it's a new fun thing for him to do.. Sticking my fingers down my throat makes something new and different happen.. yay! lol

he'll grow out of it. However i haven't heard too much about 11month olds doing it, it's normally in the 1-2 age range. interesting.

I suggest you see him trying to do it you remove the hand. lol

Ignore him when he gags himself and he will stop.
Around that age my DD liked to gag herself too. I ignored her (once I realized she was just messing around) and she hardly did it when she was with me. My husband made a huge deal about it, laughing and telling her to stop and pulling her hands out of her mouth. I told him to ignore her and he didn't listen and well...he got puked on
And once DD saw the awesome reaction she got to puking on dada, it was such a fun game.

If he's healthy and "normal" otherwise I am sure it is just a normal self discovery phase...it will pass.
Just like the teeth grinding did. EEK, now THAT phase made my skin crawl!
