Re: Help Stinky Bumgenius!!!

Thanks everyone so much for the tips!! So can I use Oxi Clean on the BG inserts as well as the main diaper or just the inserts... I just don't want to do anything to ruin them as I LOVE these diapers so much!!

I use the oxyclean on both my inserts and the dipes themselves and have had no problem. Like I said before though I only do it about once a week though.

I have the same problem with the BG 3.0 I think its the inserts...anyway, this helped us. Kind of expensive, but worth it.

A sales lady at the diapering store I bought my BG's from says Oxyclean soaks are a no-no on dipes with elastic because it brakes them down.

Re: Help Stinky Bumgenius!!!

I don't think Allens is a strong enough detergent to get them clean, maybe try tide. When my BG get stinky I bleach the inserts, i wash them first, then take out the pockets and set those aside, then i let the inserts soak in bleach for a couple hours. Then i rinse rinse rinse to get all the bleach and leftover suds out. They come out white and clean.

i've never tried oxyclean, but i do have oxyclean free and clear (or something along those lines)...i wonder if it would work?

Re: Help Stinky Bumgenius!!!

I use 2 tablespoons of bleach in my wash load when I get the stinkies. Any more than that, and I notice my pul start to get weird and everything ends up smelling like bleach. 2 tablespoons works great.

I really haven't found anything else that works. Oxyclean helps some, but doesn't get rid of the overnight stinky diapers. BioKleen helped a bit, but the smell was still there.

I have to bleach my inserts AND the diapers. The smell gets in the suedecloth of the BGs, too. Dealing with the stinkies in those dipes is pain, but so worth it for how awesome the fit and function. And they are the only diapers DH will even touch.

Re: Help Stinky Bumgenius!!!

I need to bleach my BG microfiber inserts every 3rd wash or so - or else we get yucky stinkies.

Re: Help Stinky Bumgenius!!!

I recently switched from Tide Free (created heavy buildup over time) to Nature Clean powder and i noticed absolutely no residue after only one rinse.

Checking for rinse: rub a little bit of cold tap water on the corner of an insert directly out of a complete wash cycle. If suds appear, rinse again. I did this 4 times to check for residue from the Tide Free and never had to with the Nature Clean.
