Fenugreek problems???

I started taking Fenugreek over the weekend to try to help boost my supply for pumping. I did have a bit of a sore tummy on the first day, but not bad at all.

But, last night (day 2 of the Fenugreek), Harrison spit up a little bit, and did this morning as well. Not much at all, but he's NEVER spit up otherwise (knock on wood). Also, he was up pretty much all night last night. When he sleeps on his back in his crib he wakes himself up with gas, he can only sleep for more than a short (30 minute?) stretch if he's on my chest and I'm sitting up.

Do you think this could be a result of the Fenugreek? It is helping boost my supply, but it's not worth it if it's going to make Harrison miserable.

Well, it does change the flavor of your milk, but I don't think that is it. I would continue to take it and see if it gets better. It may create gas, but it could also be something else in his body...

Oh, babies that never spit up sometimes go through bouts where they will.

Have you eaten anything else different? It's hard to say that that is what it is, KWIM? I have heard of babies being sensitive to the fenugreek their mamas take, so that COULD be the problem. If he's not too uncomfortable let him go a couple more days and see if it goes away. If it doesn't, then try taking out the fenugreek and seeing if that's it.

Re: Fenugreek problems???

It's not the spitting up that is the problem, it's the gas that is making him uncomfortable. I figured that a 2nd baby that never spit up was too good to be true (DD never did either).

The gas, however, is an issue...it makes him so uncomfortable He falls asleep, and then wakes up 10 minutes later with gas...sleeps again...the cycle goes on for hours

I did stop taking it, and today he seems MUCH better...he's a happy baby again. I'm going to try to boost my supply in other ways...frequent feeding and pumping, maybe blessed thistle?

I do plan to try the Fenugreek again in a week or so...and see if that is the cause, or if it was just something else coincidental.

Thanks for all the input!
