Weaned 8 months ago and still producing?

I still get squirts even after not nursing for 8 months. Is this normal? It mostly looks like colostrum, but certain times of the month or when I feel "full" (not really full, but fuller ITMS) it comes out white. Anyone? Am I just a freak

Hmm, that's interesting. I thought once you weaned a child everything dries up. I am still nursing my first child so i don't have any advice.
Is something causing it. Like the baby crying or other peoples children crying?

You will be able to squeeze out a drop or two for a long time. I can't remember how long, but it was close to a year I'm sure. It's normal.

I still wake up sometimes when I feel "full" and have "leaked" or have "milk" crusted on my nipples. I stopped nursing 10 months ago. I don't know when it will stop!!!

Re: Weaned 8 months ago and still producing?

Sad to admit this, but when I lost Emily, I had milk for MONTHS after that. I think even until I preg. with my next dd, and Emily never nursed. So, I would say that it would last a long time for mamas that nurse. With my son however, I felt like I was pretty much dry when he self-weaned at 18 months. So, I'm just lost on the subject.

Re: Weaned 8 months ago and still producing?

I took a seminar on extended breastfeeding at our local health unit and the topic of weaning and drying up came up. The LC said it can be a long time before you fully dry up, I can't remember the exact time. I do remember that she said to add 1 week on to that total for every month past 12 that you nursed.......

I weaned dd at 16 months and I would say I could still squeeze a drop or two out 8 months later. (although I never actually leaked)

There are women who 2-3 + years after they have finished nursing still have milk, blocked ducts, leak, feel letdown, etc. some women never dry up completely.

I haven't breastfed in 13 months and I can still squirt and sometimes leak. A friend of mine is still leaking with her youngest being almost 3 and I don't think she breastfed at all.

Re: Weaned 8 months ago and still producing?

I quit nursing my first baby suddenly while she was still nursing 12-16 times a day. I would soak the bed for about 18 months then started to dry up a little at a time. If I had had any info or support I would have started nursing again. The others weaned naturally (child led) and I didn't have any milk when they finished.
