...poop for 3 1/2 days!!! I finally gave him a glycerin suppository today and it worked but the poo is not runny mustard seed looking. It is the same yellow color but more sticky looking like glue. He has been happy and his belly has been soft, but last night he woke a lot and has a lot of what seemed like painful gas.
I am just wondering what would cause this?

DD never had anything like this, so I am in new territory. Thanks for your input! Danni

Oh you should SOOOOO NOT give a baby a suppository. EBF babies can go a week without a BM. Mine is five months old and still only goes once a week, and it's a blow out. Breastmilk is 90% water so not much wasted

Both of my sons have followed the once every two to four days pattern that is very common among EBF babies 3 to 6 months old. Then for fun, they will go three times in one day, and occassionally manage to produce every day. Smile. I've been told once a week is the minimum and that its impossible for a EBF baby to be constipated so never to use a laxative or suppository. Their blowouts at the greater intervals of a few days are definitely gluey not runny. I can usually tell shortly before my boys were about to have a blowout because they would get a little gassy and uncomfortable. I'm thinking your LO sounds really normal and healthy to me!!

Thanks for the replies. I was really worried because he was going a few times a day regularly then all the sudden nothing. And last night was awful for us both, I knew he was in pain. I guess since DD always went every day and so has he up till now that it felt wrong. I will look it up a bit more. I would love to see more responses!

That happened to us. Gracie was going with every change for a while and then all of a sudden went a week with no poop. But like your babe, she was happy with a soft belly and when it all came out it was a big blow out diaper of sticky yellow seedy poop. Totally normal. She continued that was from about 6 weeks old to just about a month ago(5 months) and she went to every few days. She's 6 months old and now poops every 2-3days or so and it's still normal-looking. I wouldn't intervene unless it was absolutely necessary. One time Grace went 2 weeks without pooping. I was freaking out but she seemed normal and fine and when she went. . . ooooooooh baby! Boy did she go!

What a disaster!

DS is almost 5 months old and starting around 3 months only poops once or twice a week. The longest he's gone was a week and a half. When he poops, watch out! I can tell when he needs to go because he gets really gassy and fussy. He's nice and healthy and from what I hear is totally normal for bf'd babies.
