Re: Anyone ever heard of substituting applesause for oil
I have with cake mix and cookies. It worked great! I used the same quantity of applesauce as the recipe called for oil.
Another thing you can do is take a box of cake mix and add one can of pumpkin, substituting the egg, water and oil for pumpkin. Turns out yummy! |

Re: Anyone ever heard of substituting applesause for oil
I've found that using all applesuce instead of oil can make things gummy. I use part sauce part oil. It also adds a slight apple flavor to quick breads.n b

I use babyfood instead of oil. It's the same principle. I made a funfetti cake the other day with tutti fruity baby food. YUM.

Re: Anyone ever heard of substituting applesause for oil
Ah. what a fun idea! We gave all our baby food to the food pantry when Zander wouldn't eat it, but that's a great idea to keep in mind if any shows up with the new baby!!

Re: Anyone ever heard of substituting applesause for oil
Yep, it works great with most "baked" items--unless it's a hug amount, then you end up with a soggy mess. If it calls for a lot of oil, you can use about 3/4 the amount in applesauce and 1/4 in oil.
Also, for things like a box of angel food cake mix, you can add the mix and a can of crushed pineapple (and nothing else). And bake it that way. Serve it with whipped cream/cool whip, and it's fat free and very low calorie.
