stop swaddling but still needs pacifier...ugh

Yes, yes...I diid this to myself. My 5 month old only sleeps with a pacifier but is starting to resist swaddling. She knocks the pacifier out with her hands undone....SO.....

Now what? How do I make the transition from swaddling to not when she still cant put her own pacifier in?

Do you generally hold her while she goes to sleep? I would just help her hang onto it, but I don't really have experience with it since niether of mine ever took the things...

Teach her how to keep it in, while holding her, give her a paci, gently pull on it as if you are pulling it out, so she will suck harder to keep it in, do this several times and she will suck harder to keep it in. I do this with all the fosterbabies in the first week and they get pretty good at keeping it in. I also atach the paci to the munchkin teething blanket that has a piece of elastic to hold the paci. My little one just tirned 4mths old and he is able to get the paci in his mouth most of the time by himself when it is right by his face.

I am in the exact same boat as you, lol! Connor is 4 1/2 months and just in the past week has been no longer swaddled. I usually just end up going in and giving his paci back when he needs it. Good tip on the teaching them how to keep it in though, I will have to try that!
