Question Breastfeeding & giving whole milk?

My 1 year old is still breastfeeding quite often during the day & night. Do I still need to start her on whole milk? She is also eating solids throughout the day.

My DS is not a year old yet but we don't plan on giving whole milk at a year. Breastmilk should still be fine. If you're worried about fat content, you can always start taking marshmallow root, it makes breastmilk more fatty

My pedi told me she never needs cows milk. Since I am nursing her until 2+, there's no need for it. Then we found out she can't handle it anyway (from cheese and yogurt), so for cereal we do rice milk.

Re: Breastfeeding & giving whole milk?

You never *need* to give her whole milk (and this is coming from somebody who loooooves milk) if you don't want to. My experience was that when I introduced cow's milk to DD, she permanently lost interest in nursing. She can get the calcium, good fats, Vitamins A&D and protein from other sources.

We don't actually even do milk here we do soy, so although you can give her cow's milk you don't have to.

Also OT Marshmallow root doesn't add fat to your milk, nothing adds fat or calories to your milk. Except frequent nursings, the more often you empty the breast the more fat baby gets.
