How do you bind a baby blanket ?

I am going to be making a baby blanket from fleece and satin on the back for a shower- do I have to do anything special besides sewing it together--- like binding it or something ?

TIA

It'll depend on how you sew it together, but I would carefully put fray-block around the edges of the satin before you sew, let it dry, and then use the turn and topstitch method. Satin isn't the most durable fabric. It does need quit binding or a wide bias tape if you are sewing it alone, generally (at least for blankets...)

I use satin binding when I make baby blankets. usually it;s too wide for what I want to I fold it down and iron it so it is half the width.

unfortunately the best picture I have is of the whole blanket not just the edge...

Re: How do you bind a baby blanket ?

In my opinion you picked 2 really tricky fabrics to "bind". Fleece is stretchy and satin is slippery and "not" so durable and sometimes just tricky to work with. You might want to "think" about the envelope method and avoid binding it. Right sides together, sew around outside edge and then zigzag the edge. Be sure to leave an opening so you can "birth" it. (birthing is when you turn it the insides out). Sorry it is so much easier to do it, rather then explain it. Hand sew opening closed. If you do bind it try using a satin binding that you can purchase.
