recycled longies material question...

I found the link with instructions on how to make the longies...but I'm going through sweaters of ours to make them from and need to know what to make them out of I've got a couple that are 100% wool that I know will is 15% cashmere and 85% silk, and one is 100% acrylic. I soaked a washcloth and held it up against them, squished them around some and didn't see or feel any soaking through, but is that a good enough test to see if they'll really work? Anything else I need to do or look for when checking out sweaters? I'd really hate to cut them up and all if they won't work since I could yardsale them here in a couple weeks or actually *gasp* wear something my MIL has bought me

Brenna, all around AP'ing, trying to be crunchier, stay at home mama to Ash, Bryn, and our little Rebel Journey, wife to Nate
Come swag with me!! I've earned $75 in FREE Amazon gift cards just by searching

Acrylic will work. You need at least 75% wool for it to be water resistant and make sure it isn't blended with an absorbent fabric like cotton.
