Does your child destroy their toys on purpose?

My dd loves to just destroy her toys. She just walks over there and starts wrecking them. It is so frustrating! Today she was in the playroom w/dh and she has a play kitchen that she pushed over and started jumping on top of. It made dh so mad to see her do that. We try to teach her to respect the nice things she has. I don't understand why she does this. It's not like we just let her do it either. How do I make her not do that?

Well, my dd#2 has a thing for tearing all the paper off crayons & then purposefully breaking them in half. It's like a game for her.....

Those aren't so big, but when the kids start getting rough with the bigger, more expensive toys then the TOYS go into "toy time-out" for the rest of the day or if it's the end of the day it's in time out for the entire next day. This is also their consequence when they won't pick-up their toys. IMO, if they can't treat them right then they don't need to play with them.

BTW...my kids are 2 and 3 years old

i agree with pp, we do the same thing here, if my son throws his toys they get taken away and put aside and he can not play with it again until he is able to use it right. toys cost too much for a child to just wreck it and my son has done his share of wrecking too, this really works~goodluck

Yep, we do that. She cries for 5 minutes and then doesn't seem to care. She will just move onto the next thing or she will do it again tomorrow. It's driving me ! I wish she could realize that her toys are something special. I've even threatened to give them away...help!!!
