Diaper Swappers

I'm puzzled! I washed a large load of diapers in my washing machine--same detergent as usual, same diapers as usual, same washer as usual--and they all turned gray! The discoloration isn't all that bad, and they don't smell at all, but it just seems really, really weird.

The only thing that was at all different was that, because we're in the middle of an in-town move, they stayed in the pail a bit longer than usual--like 3 days. Maybe it's some kind of mold? DD hasn't gotten a diaper rash from it, whatever it is.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any thoughts?

nothing new (diaper, wipes, wetbag) or extra (sock, shirt, toy, etc) in with the load?

3 days shouldn't cause a mold problem unless they sat in the washer wet for 3 days, and even then i dont think they'd change color.

What about the water you said you moved could it be the detergent reacting to different water?

Hmmm... well, it was an in-town move on the same city water system, so the composition of the water itself probably isn't the issue.

BINGO--I got it!--the house we've moved to had been vacant for a few months. Maybe there was mineral buildup in the washing machine lines that needed to be run through before it ran clean again.
