Shipping Breastmilk

Anybody have any experience shipping their BM? I am going away for 2 weeks the day after DS turns one. (business, unavoidable trip ) Anyhow I plan to have enough freezer stash to last his first week and was hoping I could mail the second weeks of BM to DH (from what I pumped the first week). I am guessing that is not going to be "routine" shipping. What do I have to do? How do I package it? What are the rules?

Any info is appreciated!!!

Re: Shipping Breastmilk

there are some organizations that take donated breastmilk - you might google it and see what they reccommend for sending bm in - should be similar circumstances.

Re: Shipping Breastmilk

I've shipped milk many times, for 9 months as a donor. I packed it as tightly as possible. Even just packing with newspaper tightly in a cardboard box well-taped works if you use Express overnight shipping. I have shipped Priority during colder months and it worked, but I think it's best to use overnight shipping if you can afford to.
The frozen milk functions as its own ice pack. Just double bag the breastmilk bags in a gallon ziptop bag.
