Blood in stool- 8 mos
Well, title says is all. I wasn't overly concerned until the drs office told me to bring her in immediately. I was thinking it was probably diet related. But now I'm a little worried....
She's 8.5 mos and a great eater. (She wants waaaay more than I'll actually give her at this point-) I just started YoBaby yogurt yesterday am and I was thinking this was the culprit. Any ideas? Should I wait and see? It wasn't a lot but it was noticeable and she's still little. Help! Any ideas? ETA- she seemed a little constipated yesterday and skipped a bm (unusual for her) but everything seems fine except the blood. She's also had a little cold and cough for abt a week but again, unrelated and doesn't really seem bothered by it.

Re: Blood in stool- 8 mos
Has she been constipated at all? It may have been just a rough BM or something with trying the new foods out.

If I don't take her, could that be held against me at all? I love my pedi but I'm thinking wanting us to come in today could be a cya thing. I just don't want to have to find a new ped b/c he thinks I'm neglectful or something....

Any antibiotics lately? If you can bring in the poo that had the blood in it. They can test to make sure it was poo and do other tests as well. DD was hospitalized for this when she was 8 mos old--they never found anything and chalked it up to her sesitivity to antibiotics. ]

Re: Blood in stool- 8 mos
Good thought but no abs-
It was a very small amt. She went in the potty so after thinking abt it, I probably wouldn't have even seen it if it were smashed up in the diaper-

Re: Blood in stool- 8 mos
Just wanted to add that the first part of the bm was hard and the remainder was soft like it usually is.
This yogurt wasn't her first food but it is the first real amt of dairy she's had other than my milk. I had to start her on rice at 4 mos for reflux (it was either that or meds- the lesser of 2 evils at that age-) and then we started foods (veges, fruits, oatmeal, etc) at beginning 6 mos (waiting in between for allergies, of course.

Re: Blood in stool- 8 mos
Thanks for the responses Nethridge and Nikki!
I req'd a call back from the pedi to discuss this at length b/c I truly don't feel there's reason for alarm. They did and after a chat, they no longer want to see her. They, too, feel that it's simply the constipation. No more oatmeal for a couple of days-

Re: Blood in stool- 8 mos
Red or black blood? Red would be from low down, like a fissure related to constipation. Black, like coffee grounds, would be higher up and more likely to be intolerance/allergy related.
