Re: How long do you plan to BF?

I'd love to do 4 years + if DD wants to, but I put down 2-3 years because that's how long I PLAN on nursing her. after that, we'll see how it goes. I'll be happy with at least 2 years. so far so good! dd is almost 15mo

Re: How long do you plan to BF?

I BFed DS until he was 6wks. I only stopped cause the ship SUDDENLY decided to deploy. I didn't think I could nurse while chasing a 17m old. After a couple months, I realized I could have gone longer but it was too late. I had a B. reduction after him. When I got prego with #3, I said I was going to go as long as I could but gave up at 6wks. All the pumping in the world only gave me 2oz a day. I have a bit of scarring so she had no interest.

If I get prego again, I will try again. I have read that the first child after a surgery may not get much but their stimulation can cause the ducts to repair themselves by the next child. I am not planning an #4, though

Re: How long do you plan to BF?

I was only able to nurse part-time until DD was 6 months. My supply was very low. This was partially due to the problems we had with jaundice. DD had a very high level of jaundice the first week. They had to put her in the glass covered beds with 2 big bili lights shining on her and a bili blanket underneath her. During the week we were in the hospital, DD wasn't able to nurse and it was a full day before they finally got a pump to me and I didn't have one at the time. Basically this killed my supply and it took quite a bit of pumping and nursing to get it back to a decent amount. I finally got it close to where it needed to be when I had to go back to work and having to cut back my nursing and trying to fit in pumpings at night and then waking up during the night to pump so she'd have milk at daycare didn't help. We moved when she was about 6 months and she weaned herself during that time and moved to full time formula...she's on 2% milk now...D milk gave her gas. I would have liked to BF longer but everything just seemed to work against us then. I have a good Medela pump that I got soon after I started working again when DD was about 2months and I'm hoping that with the next one, I'll be able to make it full time BFing until at least 6 months...though I'd love to go to a year.

Re: How long do you plan to BF?

I really believe in child led weaning, but I'm hoping that is somewhere between ages 2 and 3! I really don't want to stop nursing though, I love the Mommy/Baby time!

I voted 3-4 years. I just weaned both my boys--ages 2 and 3.5 years old. My 3.5 year old would probably be one of those kids nursing until 4-5 years old, maybe even later! He showed no signs of losing interest.

Re: How long do you plan to BF?

Gage weaned at about 19m but i was also prego about 4-5 months along when he finally stopped, went down to a couple times a day, to just at night, to every other night, then every couple nights then he just didnt want to anymore...it was sad.. And now with Declan we'll let him nurse until he's done..

I wish I had done the poll a little differently and I don't see a way to edit the options. I think I may start a different poll.

Ok here's one that is a little more detailed with the poll options.

Re: How long do you plan to BF?

I am a Child Lead Weaning mom. I don't think we would nurse to 4, lol, but it would depend on the kid.

I nursed my first son till 30months, DD2- 20months- DD3 is tandem nursing and she's 31mo, and DS4 is now nursing 19months!

I would not have nursed kids 1 &2 till 4yrs. They were ready to wean, and self weaned at the ages given. My 3rd DD is NOT even close to weaning. She's very babyish in certain ways- and she's not able to calm herself and nursing is her only outlet that helps her to calm down. DS is still too little.

So, in case you have been adding... I have been nursing a baby since 2002.
