They have changed their breastfeeding recommendation! When my twins were around 1 I researched extended breastfeeding and they recommended AT LEAST 2 years, that was 2 years ago. Now they recommend UP TO 2 years and beyond. Anyone else see the difference?!?!? Now extended breastfeeders in the US are going to get even more pressure. My twins will be 3 in October and my husband has wanted me to wean. If he found this out he would really start pressuring me. Stupid American doctors; you know that has to be who pressured them to change their recommendation. It's not like anything has changed in the last 2 years! ARGHHHH!

It sounds like it means essentially the same thing but wording matters in terms of perception and I think you're right--it will make it harder for those who choose to bf beyond 2 years of age.

Many mammas bf well past two. It's their choice.
I will likely stop when I have to go back to work - at 12mos and only out of convenience. I was not able to nurse our daughter and I am so pleased to say I am currently able to nurse this time.

You nurse until you want to. That's my opinion.

"Up to" and "beyond" do not make any sense when used together. Which is it ~ up to two years or beyond two years? It really can't be both. Up to kind of cancels out beyond.

I was thinking the same thing. Not to mention, I can just say "It's recommended" and most people won't say "by who." Just another way to get around.
