1st birthday foods for families waiting on solids?

I really wanted a carrot cakeish thing with no flour for my daughter. I even planned a whole Some"bunny" is one party around it only to have my mom get a custom chocolate cake for her and completely take over the party so I vote stick with what you want so you don't have an experience you feel horrible about later.

I made maddie a vegan cake with rice icecream.

She didn't eat much of it at all, but the pics where cute!

So the birthday party was fun, and in the end my inlaws just thought I was strange. The adults had regular cake, and DS had watermelon "cake"

frosted with sweet potato puree and decorated with blueberries,

all foods he enjoys and can eat on his own.

Both sets of grandparents got the messy photos they wanted and I didn't have to worry about DS. Thanks for all the great ideas - it really helped to have support from others in similar situations!

Just lurking as DD isnt quite ready for solids yet but I HAD to say that is a GREAT idea! I love it! Very creative!

that's an awesome idea! I'm going through the same thing, dh and I actually had a hugs fight over the cake for ds! he just wants the cake smash pics I think <sigh>
