Does vegan = no dairy?

DD is losing weight and the ped in thinking that the issue is likely dairy in my diet. (We'll check out the soy, peanuts, etc if it's not dairy). I've been reading labels the last day and am avoiding milk products, whey and casien (sp?). In general, if something is "certified vegan" does that mean no dairy or dairy proteins?
Thanks!

It should. Vegan means no animal products at all.

However, I'm leary of totally trusting labels on things like that. If you want to be super careful, call the food companies and ask them.

yes. vegan means no animal products what so ever.

I had to do a non dairy diet with my daughter, its not fun! You have to watch labels closely, but once you get used to it, its easy.

Here are some helpful links.

also just google hidden dairy, because dairy is in a LOT of things you'd never think of!

If it says certified vegan it is not even processed in the same plant as dairy or meat products. A lot of the vegan foods that say they are certified have a heart with a V in it.
