I was told the earlier the better. You can get a finger gum cleaner or a super soft tooth brush to rub the gums to get the food/milk off and that should help a lot with stinky breath. If there are teeth they need to be brushed(what the dentist said) we would give ds a baby brush and let him kinda chew on it and that helped a lot.
