Crock Pot Chicken and Dressing Recipe..will this work?

I want to cook a whole chicken in the crock pot for the rest of the day. I'm planning to serve it with bagged dressing mix (off brand of Pepridge Farm).

Can I just put the dressing mix, water (amount called for in the dressing mix pkg + extra) in the crockpot on low for 6 hrs?

What would you do?

Personally, I would put the chicken in but not the stuffing yet, Not sure what time you are planning on eating, but here it is already 1:30, so it is a bit late for all day cooking. Are you cooking the chicken whole or are you planning to cut it into pieces? I have never done one whole in the slowcooker, I put mine in the PC stone roaster, top w/the cover and cook for 2-3 hrs depending on the size of the chicken. If you do add the stuffing, I wouldn't do it more than about 30 min before you want to eat, but I really think the slow cooker would make it mushy-never done it though.

I read in a crockpot recipe book you should never cook a whole chicken b/c the crockpot doesn't get hot enough to kill all the bacteria.

I don't think it would work. It would be all soggy, kwim.
