I weaned 1.5 wks ago, but am still producing a little...what's going on?

So this is probably TMI, but o well...that's life

I'm 4.5 months preggo and my milk production went way down about month 2. So my LO and I have been struggling to keep w/ it and it finally came to a halt about 1.5 wks ago. I am sad, but realized it was probably for the best b/c I was exhausted.

Anyways, I took a bath tonite and lately my boobs (mainly the nipple area) have been sore/achey. I figured it was normal for my body to do this as it stops producing milk. So, me be the curious person I am, start trying to self express some milk and milk comes out of each nipple. Not spraying out (like it did for the first morning feeding or something), but it just kinda came out...again, not very much.

So, what is going on? Does it take time for the ducts to fully empty or is the pregnancy related?

I'm not worried, just curious.

It sounds pretty normal to me...I think it can take a while for milk to completely go away...

My friend went on vacation without her son...he had just about weaned (nursing once a day, if that....), and she didn't have any concerns that he wouldn't be fine while she was away...She was gone for just over 2 weeks. When she returned, he wanted to nurse, and she told him he could try, and she told him that the milk was all gone...he latched on and sure enough, she felt her milk letting down...

That sounds normal. I weaned ODS when I was 3 months pregnant with DD, but throughout I could still get some milk out.

Yeah you'll keep making milk for a little while, esp if your boobs get messed with a lot

A friend of mine could express the teeniest bit of milk years after she weaned her LO. Amazing!!! I don't think it normally takes that long, but I think it does take at least a few weeks or months.

Yeah, it can take a few weeks or months to empty out. I weaned my first son and a month or two passed, but then when I went on a getaway with my husband and was in the jacuzzi, either my boobs started leaking or I squeezed just to see if there was still anything there - and some drops definitely came out.

Verrry gradually, if you're not being emptied by the baby or a pump, it will dry up. I guess it's not just like a faucet that turns off one day.

I agree, totally normal. My LO weaned in JULY when I was about 10 weeks pregnant. I can still hand express a little milk to this day and also feel like it will probably be only a matter of a few weeks before I start *leaking*... I am about 28 weeks PG now and everytime my youngest cries, I can almost feel that letdown reflex happening like with a newborn.
